Treatment

Now we all know people get treatment after being diagnosed with a disorder, but did you know a large percent of doctors wouldn't go through the procedures they recommend? This article freaked me out a lot :http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2100684/Why-doctors-like-die-endure-pain-treatment-advanced-cancer.html  Basically If they knew they were going to die they would want to ease the pain and let it happen,  is when reality hits home. They know what a small probability IS. People are painfully optimistic. People are use to hearing the one in a million survival stories. Like: "the doctors said I have a month to live, now I'm 47 with a wife and a dog". But you know what hits home the fact that the 999 999 999 people thought they would be that one person and died in painful misery. No ordinary misery, It was a tease really you may live, most likely NOT, but these people still held on to hope. Now this is what gets me, DOCTORS have spent there bloody lives (they work hard to get there, and lets face it they're busy people) doing this stuff and they see this, they experience the painful unsuccessful treatments. Also nurses say people who are dying want to refuse medical treatment, but are pressured from relatives to "keep fighting". But here's the other thing this is hypothetical. What if they're really dying? So I looked up some stuff for doctors with this experience .Its just so interesting because they are in the know they know the wont be the one person and would want to enjoy whats left in their life. Here's a quote from the article: "If a patient suffers from severe illness, old age or a terminal disease, the odds of a good outcome from CPR are infinitesimal, while the odds of suffering are overwhelming."

So you can enjoy or painfully fight is what they're saying.

apparently specialists are the worst at giving bad news, general practitioners are better. But they feel like they have failed as doctors when they tell someone they cant treat them any longer. Personally this is sad and eye opening really, a statistic is a statistic and your the number.

  1. This is really really sad. The fact that people with a serious illness have only two options (fight painfully for an extra few weeks or go peacefully without extra time) is such a crappy reality of life. I completely agree with you that it is eye opening that sick people, in the end, become just a number in a statistic.
